« À travers ce qui semble confus et sans lien apparent, je laisse mon intuition plonger dans mon inconscient, » dit Pibo (Conrad Paradis). Au carrefour du figuratif et de l’abstrait, ses œuvres prennent des formes parfois loufoques, souvent inattendues, toujours structurées. Espace épuré, ligne simple et couleurs franches; les sculptures et murales de cet autodidacte expriment l’harmonie et la simplicité du mouvement. En entrant dans l’univers de Pibo, l’observateur est surpris, rapidement fasciné.
« Je cherche à exprimer l’émotivité qui m’habite lorsque j’observe le monde qui m’entoure. Pour y arriver je me laisse imprégner par l’esprit du lieu tout en imaginant comment traduire, en formes, en textures et en couleurs, les impressions qui surgissent de mon inconscient ».
L’artiste est polyvalent. On retrouve dans l’univers de Pibo des oeuvres de toutes dimensions. L’utilisation d’objets récupérés, transformés et associés à la matière brute telle l’acier, les pâtes-ciments et les tissus, reste le modus vivendi de sa démarche artistique.
Pibo organise la matière pour qu’elle devienne un objet d’art dans sa plus simple expression, sans être minimaliste. Réutiliser et organiser pour redire autrement demeure son leitmotiv. En effet, Pibo prône la fusion des genres artistiques : minimaliste, lyrique et abstrait pour un heureux résultat accessible à tous.
Pibo a reçu en 2019 le prix du Patrimoine de la région de la Capitale-Nationale pour son exposition « Du Pélican à La Baleine, sur les traces du petit monde de Pibo ». Plusieurs de ses œuvres se retrouvent à l’étranger, principalement en France. Avec plus d’une dizaine d’expositions solo ainsi que plusieurs collectifs, trente ans plus tard, Pibo s’amuse toujours de la matière.

«Through this seeming confused and unconnected world, I let my intuition make contact with my unconscious mind,» says Pibo (Conrad Paradis). At the crossroads of the figurative and the abstract, his work sometimes takes wacky unexpected, and sometimes strange, yet structured forms. Sleek spaces, simple lines and bold colours; this self-taught artist’s sculptures and murals express harmony and simplicity of movement. When entering Pibo’s universe, you are both surprised and fascinated as an observer. «I seek to express the emotions that are inside of me when I observe the world. To get there, I let myself be permeated with the sense of place while imagining how I can translate the impressions arising from my unconscious mind into forms, textures, and colours».

The artist Pibo has great versatility. Works of all sizes find their place in his universe. The use of recovered and processed objects, mated with raw materials such as steel, cement, and fabrics, remains the modus operandi of his artistic approach. Pibo organizes that which becomes an object of art in its simplest form of expression, without being minimalist in any way. Reuse and organize to reiterate differently remains his recurring theme. Pibo loves merging artistic genres: minimal, lyrical, and abstract for a happy and accessible outcome.
In 2019, Pibo received the Prix du patrimoine de la région de la Capitale-Nationale for his exhibition « Du Pélican à La Baleine, sur les traces du petit monde de Pibo ». Several of his works are found abroad, mainly in France. With more than a dozen solo exhibitions as well as several other collective expositions, Pibo is still enjoying the creative process after more than 30 years of practice.
